The content of this blog is moving to Glasgow Life’s website and its name is changing to ‘Legacies of Slavery and Empire’. All of our published content can now be found here:
https://www.glasgowlife.org.uk/museums/glasgow-life-museums-blogs/legacies-of-slavery-and-empire
Moving forward, new articles will be posted on the new site only, while older articles will remain live on this site for a while yet.
As part of the move, we’re widening the remit of the blog to include articles about the legacies of colonialism and empire more broadly. Building a better understanding of colonialism, empire, chattel slavery and their legacies is becoming a core part of Glasgow Museums’ work, and there is still much more we can do to explore our collections’ links with empire. We will continue to publish what we learn about the collection across our digital spaces and in our museum venues.
We look forward to sharing interesting news, articles and reflections with you over the coming years.
Hi I would be really interested in volunteering for you, my name is Joanne Earnshaw. Thanks

Thanks for the update. i’m busy with a book at present but will contribute in due course. My ancestors named Brown who were on Dominica, were planters who had slaves. They were Glasgow Scots and left the West Indies for Victoria, Australia in 1854

Is there a way of subscribing to the new blog? In this location it was possible to subscribe via WordPress but that doesn’t seem to be an option in the new location.

Hello, thanks for commenting. I’m afraid there is currently no option to subscribe to the blog in its new location. We’re looking into options, and if we find a solution we’ll alert our WP subscribers. Thanks again for flagging.
